Municipal Elections for 2013

In the last city newsletter we posted a notice about the upcoming municipal election later this year. What an interesting November election we will have in Taylorsville! Normally we would have the mayor's seat and council district 4 and 5 up for election. This year we also have council district 3 and a vote on whether or not to join the Fire District.

State law says that an interim position cannot be held for more than two years, which is why the council district 3 seat will have an election both in 2013 and then again 2015 to get back on the four-year schedule.

The 2013 election date is November 5. Beginning on June 3 through June 17, candidates can come in to file during regular business hours (8-5).

A candidate must have been a resident of the City of Taylorsville for at least 12 consecutive months (365 days) immediately prior to the date of the general election. A candidate must also be a registered voter. If a candidate is running for a council district seat, he/she must be a resident of that district. A filing fee of $100.00 must be paid at the time of filing the Declaration of Candidacy.  (The filing fee will be reduced to $50 for candidates who submit a nomination petition containing 25 signatures of residents of the city who are at least 18 years old).
